Mary, Joseph and baby Jes...Riley???
Day or two after Christmas, Brayden and I stopped by my parents to drop some stuff off. Brayden loves to play with Mimmy's manger scenes. So he went over and started to play with one. I asked him who he was playing with and he started to identify the characters. When he got to baby Jesus he held it in his hands and started to look around the room at my Dad and Mom, my Sister and I. We coaxed him some more to tell us who the baby was, finally he got this quirky grin on his face and said "baby Riley." We all laughed, pretty hard and he realized he made a joke. So he showed us the baby again and said "baby Riley" and laughed to himself, while shaking his head. I think we will need to review the Christmas story before next year.
Christmas Overstimulation
Brayden had trouble going to bed one night this past weekend. So as he was screaming for his Mommy, I went into his bedroom to see what was wrong. I asked him what was wrong and he screamed "Mommy." I told him that Mommy was busy getting Riley ready for bed and I could help him. So, I asked him if I could get him something and he responded, "yes." So I asked "what can I get you?" His response was "Mommy." Needless to say, I didn't fall for it and he went to sleep shortly there after.

Already ahead of the game
Last night I was laying on Brayden's bed as we were putting him to bed. For some reason he leaned over and bit me right on the chest. After some quick punishment, I decided it was time to talk to him about what he did. So I said, "Brayden, you are not allowed to bite, how about when you are about to bite someone you stop and give them a kiss, does this sound like a good idea?" Brayden shook his head yes, but I knew I needed to reinforce this lesson. So I asked Brayden, "so what are you going to do when you are about to bite someone?" He responded with "bite." So I tried to simplify the question, "when you are about to bite someone, should you bite them, or give them a kiss?" Again Brayden responded with "bite." Finally I said to Brayden, "when you are about to bite someone, you think you should just give them a kiss?" He looked at me for a couple of seconds and said "yeah." I am not sure if he meant this or not, but I feel like he knew the answer I was looking for and decided to give it to me.

On My Finger
Tonight as I was getting Brayden out of his car seat, I noticed he was holding his right hand kind of weird. He held out his finger and I could see it had something on it. Upon closer examination I found an enormous booger. I asked Brayden what he had and he responded with "boogie." He held out his finger so I could remove the booger. At least he didn't eat it.

Look Out Riley
The other night we had a fire and the boys and I were hanging out downstairs. Steph was at the gym, so it was a boys night for a while. I was holding Riley and Brayden came over and said something to me, but I did not understand what he said. Upon repeating, I realized he said "fight." I said to Brayden, "do you want to fight Daddy?" Brayden responded with, "no Daddy, fight Riley." It is going to be interesting when Riley gets bigger.

Checking the Diaper
Last week we were coming out of church and somehow we started talking about going to the bathroom. I asked Brayden if he had to go and he said no. As we continued through the parking lot I felt like I was dragging Brayden. So I looked down to see what was going on. And he was feeling his diaper and said "no pee."

word confusion
While sitting at the dinner table, Brayden notices I have a band-aid on my elbow. Steph says to Brayden, do you think Daddy has a bob-boo? Brayden replies with "yeah." This is what follows:
Steph: "Brayden can you say boo-boo?"
Brayden: "Boobie."
I almost choked on my dinner.

Always Thinking
Today was Steph's first day of work since Riley was born. So before I put Brayden to bed tonight we called Mommy to say goodnight. Steph was on a break and was pumping while we talked to her. Brayden and Mommy had a somewhat one-sided conversation with Steph asking questions that were getting no response. Finally Brayden blurts out "milk." I looked at him and he starts to mimic the sound of Steph's pump that he could hear through the phone. It took him a while but he put it all together.
potty training
Last night Brayden was playing on the floor and he jumped up and told us he needed to use the toilet. So I took him back and set him on the toilet and he peed. After praising him and giving him five, I asked him if he had to poop. He clenched his teeth and started to push real hard and was able to fart once and and he looked at me and smiled. I asked him if he was done and he started to push again and got the same result and started to giggle and then announced to me he was done. A step in the right direction.

Newnie
Today as I was getting dressed, Brayden came running into our bedroom and fell. I asked him if his shoes were too small and he responded with "yes." So I said "it might be time for a new pair of shoes." He then took off down the hall, before he made it to the kitchen he turned around and ran back into our room and fell again. He stood up and looked at me and said "newnies?" Which in Brayden-speak means new-ones. I said "yeah you might need new shoes." So again he runs out of the room and down the hall and then back into the room and falls again. He jumps up and looks at me and says again "newnies?" I start to catch on to what he is up to and say, "you don't need new shoes if you are falling on purpose." He repeats this another couple more times and each time he falls harder trying to sell me on the new shoes. I hope his feet don't grow like mine.

Uncontrollable 2's
Tonight, which is 2 days shy of Brayden's birthday, I tried to figure out why he is acting so crazy the last couple of days. So I asked, "Brayden, is the reason you have been acting so crazy lately because of your birthday coming up?" Brayden looked at me with a quirky smile, clenched both fists in front of his chest and started to shake uncontrollably. Hopefully Friday he will calm down.

Potty Time
Today Brayden used the toilet and he and his mommy were telling me about it at dinner. Steph said "Brayden tell Daddy what you did today on the potty". Brayden responded with "pee." Steph did not get the full answer so again she asked him what he did on the potty. This time Bryden responded with "wipe." Steph still did not get the response she wanted, so she asked again. Finally he said "poopy." With excitement I said "Brayden, did you poop on the potty today?" Brayden responded "yeah buddy!"

"Mommy...No"
Today, Steph and I took the boys to the Washington Fairgrounds for a children's consignment sale. As we were walking around, Steph went to look for jackets, while the boys and I looked at clothes. Brayden asked me where his Mommy was and I told him. The next lady we walked passed Brayden pointed at and said "Mommy?...no." I didn't quite understand him, then we past another woman and Brayden again points and says "Mommy?...no." He did this for the next 3-4 women we passed. Apparently he was searching for his Mommy and needed to confirm that each woman was not her.
Tiger Woods
Last night Brayden accompanied Dusty, Nick and myself to the driving range. The three of us were all hitting and Brayden was watching. There was a yellow line behind the mats and we continually reminded Brayden to stay behind the line so he wouldn't get hit. A little while later Brayden got his turn to hit and apparently we were standing too close and he turned around and told us to "move" and pointed to the yellow line. Funny how a 23 month old can boss around a couple of 30 somethings.

The Boy Who Cried Toot
The other day Brayden and I were playing in his room when all of a sudden he stopped. He looked at me and said something that sounded like "tut." I was confused, until he farted and I then realized he said toot. Since that night he has been announcing his moments of gas, either prior to or just after they occur. Where did he learn this from?

There is no crying in my world
Several weeks ago we went to Pasta Too for dinner. We had a large party and had to wait to be seated. While waiting, there was another party with several kids sitting next to us in the entrance. The one little boy was probably 3 or 4 and he was hungry and not wanting to wait any more. To show his displeasure with Pasta Too this little boy began to cry. After a minute or two of crying, Brayden looked at the boy and then looked back at us and made a sad face and started mock crying to make fun of the little boy. Brayden still does this to make fun of his little brother.

Confused Little Boy
The other day I was going to the bathroom while seated and Brayden walked in on me. He walked past me to go over to his bathtub and as he past me he looked at me. He pointed towards my crotch and then threw his arms up in the air and with a very confused look on his face asked "pee-pee?" Maybe we should start explaining potty training better.

Dreaming of Monkneys
The other night I go into Brayden's room to check on him before we go to bed. I find he has rolled off his bed and is asleep on the floor. So I pick him up and lay him back in bed. As I do this he blurts out "monkney," never waking up as I lay him down. Needless to say the little guy is a big fan of monkeys.

Man of few words, but many hand gestures.
Second Story...
The other night I was bathing Brayden and after his bath I was drying him off in front of the toilet. He pointed to something and said "Mommy." I was unsure of what he was talking about so I asked him to repeat what he said. Again he pointed to something and said "Mommy." I finally figured out he was pointing at the plunger. I asked him if Mommy uses the plunger and he said "yeah," and moved his hands up and down furiously.

Just the Beginning
I hate blogs and everything about them, but I have 2 little boys that make me laugh and some of these stories need to be written down for people to read. First story....
A couple of days ago we asked Brayden what he wanted for his birthday. He quickly answered "choo-choo," we prompted for another answer and he responded with "mac n cheese". After asking him for his next birthday request he said "water," we said why and he said "iced tea." So to summarize he wants a train, a boxed dinner and water to make iced tea.
That would be a sweet 2nd birthday if he gets all his wishes.
